US Army Private. July 21, 2010
I would just like to say this website is a safe-haven for me when I thought there was none. I recently joined the National Guard because I was looking to serve the people in my community, state, and country. After President Obama's campaign two years ago in which he criticized supporters of these illegal wars I thought the winds of change were coming. I was naive to think so. I was lied to. We were all lied to. Now I'm facing the possibility of having to go all the way overseas to kill and destroy another country. This is wrong and it makes me physically sick at night. It also makes me sick knowing that there are people out there who still support these wars. I would just like to thank you for listening and for giving people like me a safe-haven to come to.

I just wanted to give a big thank you for posting an outreach for support in regard to my recent incarceration after being AWOL. I was let out just this past Saturday, June 12th and now I am in the process of separating from the Army at last! I received quite a few letters of support from people across all spans of the US. Those letters truly helped me to stay positive not just about my reasons for being confined, but about being able to remain stable outside of the military. It is good to be reminded that there is such a strong community out there that won't look at the terms of my discharge like the military claims. (Nicole's Myspace music page.) |

“From what I’ve heard of (Pfc. Bradley) Manning, he is a new hero of mine.” —Daniel Ellsberg, Pentagon Papers whistle-blower
Army charge sheet (PDF)
In April, the Wikileaks website released a video depicting a US helicopter attack in Baghdad that killed eleven unarmed Iraqi civilians, including two Reuters employees, and seriously wounded two children. Titled “Collateral Murder”, the video was widely posted and reported on.
Last week, the Army charged 22-year-old intelligence analyst Pfc. Bradley Manning with providing the video after he allegedly took credit for doing so online. For the past month, he has been held in isolation from supporters and civilian legal assistance in a US military confinement facility in Kuwait. |

This week was very important for the 200 U.S. war resisters who are seeking sanctuary in Canada. The case of Jeremy Hinzman, the first to do so, was argued in Canada's Federal Court of Appeals on Tuesday, May 25. The outcome may decide the fate of Jeremy, his wife Nga (photo right) and their two young children. The court's decision, which is expected to take several months, may also determine the fate of other young men and women who are facing deportation to the U.S., followed by courts martial and imprisonment. |

This memorial day, it is not enough to remember those killed in war. We need to remember that we are still at war. We are still sending men and women to fight, kill, and die in Afghanistan and Iraq in our name.
What many don't realize is just how involuntary our military fighting these occupation wars on our behalf really is. Military programs such as the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and "Stoploss" continue to press tens of thousands of troops into service long past their scheduled end of active duty, while record unemployment and cuts to social programs ensure quotas for fresh recruits are currently being met. |

Dear Brother Glenton,
Speaking for over 7,000 members of Veterans For Peace, I heartily join in the sentiment expressed by a policeman in front of your wife and her mother as you were going to court for a hearing, “This boy makes us proud.”

Yes, we did it! To the hundreds who wrote letters and donated to his defense, Marc shared via phone from Kuwait, "Thank you, thank you for all of your love and support!" Supporters donated over $9,000 that covered Marc's defense, including his upcoming discharge upgrade appeal.
By Dahr Jamail, Truthout. April 18, 2010
Until April 17, US Army Spc. Marc Hall sat in a military brig at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, facing an imminent court-martial for challenging the US military’s stop-loss policy in a song. Saturday morning, Spc. Hall was granted a discharge by the military. |
