ImageArmy National Guard Specialist Ghanim Khalil, 30, of Staten Island, N.Y., announced in February, 2003 that he would refuse deployment to Iraq as part of any unilateral military invasion. “I believe that this war is for material gain…It is illegal under international law.” He was allowed to separate from the Guard in 2005 and remains active in the antiwar movement.
